T his is a stimulating (no pun intended) read and an inspiration for any couple to read. Her work has certainly guided my own work with couples. For instance in my Insight Keeping Sex Alive.

Perel asks: “Can we desire what we already have? Does good intimacy always make for hot sex?”

Esther Perel is a couples and family therapist with a private practice in New York City, where she lives with her husband and two children. She is one of the world’s most respected voices on erotic intelligence.

“Can we desire what we already have?
Does good intimacy always make for hot sex?”

er later book, The State of Affairs, has been water in the desert, satisfying a thirst for comprehensive and intelligent discussion on affairs. Expect more than you can imagine! In Mating in Captivity, Perel examines the complexities of sustaining desire in committed, long-term relationships. Through case studies and lively discussions, Perel demonstrates how more exciting, playful and even poetic sex is possible. Wise, witty, and as revelatory as it is straightforward, this is a sensational book that will transform the way you live and love. So says the back cover. And it is a good summary.

You can also find Esther Perel on TED talks, here and here.

Everything I have read, heard or watched by her has been well researched, well-lived and valuable. And all this is delivered in a charming Belgian accent! Interested in improving the sexual connection with your partner?
