Cultivating Compassion and Fearlessness in the Presence of Death.

By Joan Halifax.

J oan Jiko Halifax (born 1942) is an American Zen Buddhist teacher, anthropologist, ecologist, civil rights activist, hospice caregiver, and the author of several books on Buddhism and spirituality. Joan Halifax is a formidable person, who has ventured to where many of us fear to go; towards death and dying.

S he is of the age, as I am, where contemplating one’s own death is very present in body and psyche. This meditation on death follows the Buddhist tradition, which advocates death meditation, as she expounds in this book, as does Pema Chodron in “Start Where You Are.”

“This compelling, brave and wise book draws from a lifetime of remarkable work with people at the end of life.” - Andrew Weil, MD
